Car Camping

Any ideas for a long car ride for camping?

I'm going camping with my family for two weeks and the car ride is 8 hours. How do I kill boredom?

1. 8 hours! yiekks!. We will be on the road for 4 if no traffic and usually stop for one break where we have lunch at the service station -prob a Burger King. I will have mints for the children, spearmint polo's, fruit, water and a bag of toys. No books as reading on route can make you feel iffy. Wet wipes if you don't have air con (we don't in our old Merc). Also as mine are 5 and 6, they tend to rabbit non stop and point out animals, interesting vehicles, buildings, cloud shapes, sing and ask questions for the whole journey. 2. If you're riding with another person who will be sitting with you, bring cards. Music is also excellent for eight hours. If you don't get car sick, bring a book as well. I recently went through a couple five hour drives and even found it nice just to look at all the scenery and took time just to sleep and think and daydream too.
